I made a deal with my students on the second day of class. They're allowed to use their cell phones during discussion sections, but only if they're on Twitter, and only if they're using the hashtag #philophriday. So far, it's generated a lot of buzz around sections, some dank memes (as they say), and a great philosophical question or two.
I'm a huge fan of meeting students where they're at when it comes to educational technology. That's why I created a Facebook group and invited them all to join. So far there have been lots of organization work done through that page, and even a little philosophy. Slowly but surely, we're creating a culture.
So use the hashtag and post away! I'll try to check on occasionally on whether (and to what extent) I think this media has been successful in the classroom. Oh, and follow me on twitter. Please.
